Victoria Guillem Villafuerte (they/she) is a non-fiction filmmaker with an intuitive, editing-centered process that is led by the story and executed through collaging together various mediums and textures. Their work looks at family as a window into the history of the mestizo Latinx-American, seeking to answer questions that might not have answers. In their work, memories and archival media come together to make a time traveling machine, and coincidence and magic bring out the truth.
Bio: Victoria Guillem Villafuerte (they/she) is an Ecuadorian-American filmmaker, educator, and musician born and raised in New York City. Victoria has a BFA in Film and Television from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and is a 2023 Karen Schmeer Editing Fellow. They are currently pursuing an MFA in Experimental and Documentary Art at Duke University. They also host Open Screening Durham, a monthly screening at Shadowbox Studio.
Victoria’s directorial work has been included in the Anthology Film Archives New Filmmakers series, the Universe Multicultural Film Festival, Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, and Ithaca Experimental Film Festival, among others. Their film, Todo, was an award winner in the Best Experimental Film category at the 2023 Oregon Documentary Film Festival.
